Theses at Rhine-Ruhr 2025

The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games offer students an exciting opportunity to combine their academic career with practical experience in an international environment. Interested students can write their academic term papers, bachelor's or master's theses with the Organising Committee - as Simona Miklosova did.

As part of her bachelor's thesis on sustainable tourism at the Rhein-Waal University of Applied Sciences in Kleve, Germany, Miklosova assessed the sustainability awareness of the organising committee's staff. The research focused on three key questions:

  1. Is there a connection between the ecological and social aspects of sustainability knowledge, sustainability attitudes and sustainability behaviour of the employees of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games?

  2. How can the resulting sustainability awareness of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU Games employees be assessed?

  3. Is there a correlation between the self-perceived sustainability awareness and the actually measured sustainability awareness?

The results of the survey showed 'strong positive' correlations between social and environmental knowledge and attitudes, and 'moderate positive' correlations in terms of behaviour. These results were used to rate sustainability awareness on a scale of 1 to 5. The overall score for sustainability awareness was 4.23. The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games Sustainability Team will now use the results as a basis for further internal initiatives to explore the issue in greater depth.

"The results of this research are very important because they shed light on how to further strengthen and promote sustainability awareness among employees. They form the basis for future initiatives and measures aimed at deepening environmental and social commitment within the organisation," says Miklosova.

Miklosova's work shows that it is possible to combine academic research with practical issues and at the same time make a valuable contribution to event organisation. Of course, the team also includes other diverse departments such as Broadcast, Media & Marketing, Logistics & Transport and Science & Education.
